What Exactly is the Glabella?

The glabella is the skin between your eyebrows and above your nose. When you frown or squint, three main muscles work together to pull your brows inward and downward:
The Procerus: This sits right in the center and pulls the skin down, creating those horizontal bunny-like crinkles at the top of the nose.
The Corrugators (Left & Right): These are the workhorses that pull your brows together, creating the vertical "11" lines.
Why Botox Here?
Unlike the forehead—where we want to keep some movement to avoid looking like a frozen statue—the glabella is a "strong" muscle zone. Most people are happy to lose the "angry" look entirely.
The Treatment Breakdown
Feature | Typical Details |
Typical Dosage | 15–25 units (though men often require more due to muscle mass) |
Injection Points | Usually 5 specific points (the "V" pattern) |
Procedure Time | Under 10 minutes |
Onset | 3–5 days for initial results; 14 days for the full "settled" look |
Longevity | 3–4 months on average |
What to Expect: The Experience
The glabella is actually one of the least painful areas to treat. The skin is a bit thicker here than on the temples or around the eyes.
The "Pinch": You’ll feel a quick sting at each of the five points.
The "Crunch": Don't be alarmed—sometimes you can hear a tiny "crunching" sound as the needle passes through the thick corrugator muscle. It’s totally normal!
The Result: You won't wake up unable to move. Instead, over the first week, you’ll notice that when you try to frown, the muscles simply stop responding. Your resting face will look more "open" and refreshed.
Pro-Tips for the Best Result
Don't Lie Down: Stay upright for at least 4 hours post-injection to prevent the toxin from migrating toward your eyelids (which can cause a temporary droop).
The "Workout" Myth: Some injectors suggest "exercising" the muscle by frowning for an hour after treatment to help the Botox bind. Science is hit-or-miss on this, but it certainly doesn't hurt!
Preventative Power: If you don't have deep lines yet, treating the glabella now prevents those lines from becoming "static" (etched into the skin even when you aren't moving).
